SPIRE-SAIS supports energy-intensive industries in driving the European Green Deal through industrial symbiosis and energy efficiency. Bringing together 37 partners, it develops a cross-sector Blueprint analysing technologies, skill requirements and VET systems. Key results include a long-term skills strategy, a foresight observatory, a technology-skills radar and the SKILLS4Planet platform (2020-2024).
SPIRE-SAIS – Skills Alliance for Industrial Symbiosis in the Process Industries
The SPIRE-SAIS project (Skills Alliance for Industrial Symbiosis), funded under the Erasmus+ programme, aims to address the skills gap associated with the implementation of industrial symbiosis in Europe’s process industries. Supporting the objectives of the SPIRE initiative, the project focuses on developing new competencies required to foster resource efficiency, circular economy practices, and cross-sector collaboration.
SPIRE-SAIS brings together industry, education, and training providers to design and deliver a comprehensive skills strategy for industrial symbiosis. This includes the development of curricula, training programmes, and learning materials tailored to different professional profiles, from engineers and managers to technicians and vocational learners.
Through pilot training activities and stakeholder engagement, the project validates innovative learning approaches and promotes knowledge transfer between sectors. By strengthening workforce capabilities and aligning skills with industry needs, SPIRE-SAIS supports the transition towards a more sustainable, resource-efficient, and competitive European industrial system.
