PLASTRON develops tools and knowledge for collecting and processing plastics recovered from coastal and marine environments. PLASTRON – Plastic Waste Reduction through Industrial Symbiosis in Coastal Areas
The PLASTRON project, funded under the Interreg Italy-France Maritime programme, aims to reduce plastic waste and improve resource efficiency in coastal and maritime areas by promoting industrial symbiosis solutions. The project focuses on transforming plastic waste into valuable secondary raw materials through cooperation between industries, local authorities, and research organisations.
PLASTRON supports the development of circular value chains for plastics by facilitating the exchange and reuse of materials across sectors such as manufacturing, marine activities, and waste management. The project also promotes innovative approaches to recycling, eco-design, and sustainable production, contributing to the reduction of environmental pollution—particularly in marine ecosystems.
Through pilot actions, stakeholder engagement, and cross-border collaboration, PLASTRON demonstrates how industrial symbiosis can address plastic waste challenges while creating new economic opportunities.
