SYMCRAFT promotes circularity in Central Europe’s agri-food, textile and wood/furniture sectors by connecting crafts and industry in resource-efficient ecosystems. It addresses fragmented circular practices, supports SMEs and fosters cross-border cooperation. The project delivers strategies, pilot actions and innovative reuse-based business models, sustained through a long-term network (2024-2026).
SYMCRAFT – Industrial Symbiosis for SMEs and Craft Enterprises in Central Europe
The SYMCRAFT project, funded under the Interreg Central Europe programme, aims to promote industrial symbiosis among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and craft businesses, supporting their transition towards more resource-efficient and circular practices. The project focuses on enabling smaller companies—often underrepresented in symbiosis initiatives—to identify and implement opportunities for collaboration based on the exchange of materials, energy, and by-products.
SYMCRAFT develops tailored methodologies, tools, and support services designed to meet the specific needs and capacities of SMEs and craft enterprises. Through pilot actions and regional engagement, the project facilitates cooperation between businesses, local authorities, and innovation actors, fostering new circular value chains at local and regional levels.
By combining capacity building, practical demonstrations, and policy learning, SYMCRAFT strengthens the ability of SMEs to participate in industrial symbiosis. The project contributes to enhancing resource efficiency, reducing environmental impacts, and increasing the competitiveness and resilience of small-scale industrial ecosystems in Central Europe.
