Creation Of new value chain Relations through novel Approaches facilitating Long-term Industrial Symbiosis (CORALIS)

CORALIS advances industrial symbiosis implementation by addressing technical, managerial and economic challenges. It introduces an Industrial Symbiosis Readiness Level and a harmonised life-cycle-based monitoring framework to assess impacts. These tools are integrated into a virtual platform that guides and evaluates symbiosis initiatives (2020-2025).

CORALIS – Community-Oriented Industrial Symbiosis for a Circular and Low-Carbon Industry

The CORALIS project aims to demonstrate and scale up industrial symbiosis solutions by integrating industrial processes within broader regional ecosystems. Focusing on energy-intensive industries, the project promotes the exchange of materials, energy, water, and by-products, while also engaging local communities and stakeholders to ensure socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable outcomes.

CORALIS develops and implements large-scale industrial symbiosis schemes in real industrial areas, combining technological innovation with new governance and business models. The project adopts a systemic approach that connects industries with surrounding urban and regional systems, enabling more efficient resource use and reducing environmental impacts.

Through demonstration cases across Europe, CORALIS validates the feasibility and benefits of community-oriented symbiosis, addressing technical, economic, regulatory, and social barriers. The project contributes to the transition towards a circular, low-carbon, and socially responsible industrial economy, aligned with European Green Deal objectives.
