INCUBIS deploys five energy symbiosis incubators across Europe, supported by a digital cloud platform. With eight partners from six EU countries, the project targets annual energy savings of 200 GWh, €6 million in sustainable energy investments and a reduction of 55,000 tonnes of CO₂-equivalent emissions (2020-2023).
INCUBIS – Next-Generation Industrial Symbiosis Business Incubators
The INCUBIS project aims to accelerate the adoption of industrial symbiosis by supporting the creation and scaling of new business models through dedicated incubation programmes. The project focuses on fostering entrepreneurship and innovation in the circular economy by enabling companies—particularly SMEs and startups—to develop viable symbiosis-based solutions.
INCUBIS establishes a network of industrial symbiosis business incubators that provide targeted support services, including mentoring, technical assistance, matchmaking, and access to finance. These incubators help companies identify and implement opportunities for the exchange of materials, energy, water, and by-products, transforming waste streams into valuable resources.
By combining business incubation with industrial symbiosis practices, the project promotes the development of scalable and market-ready solutions. Through pilot actions and cross-regional collaboration, INCUBIS demonstrates how entrepreneurial ecosystems can drive the transition towards a resource-efficient, low-carbon, and circular industrial economy in Europe.
