RISERS accelerates industrial symbiosis by addressing the lack of standards and cross-sector complexity. It develops a standardisation roadmap, identifies new opportunities, engages policymakers and supports research and innovation. The project refines its roadmap through data analysis to enhance resource circularity (2024-2026).
RISERS – Research and Innovation for Systemic Industrial Resource Efficiency and Symbiosis
The RISERS project aims to advance systemic approaches to industrial symbiosis and resource efficiency by fostering collaboration between research, industry, and policy actors across Europe. The project focuses on enabling transformative innovation in resource-intensive industries by promoting integrated solutions that optimise the use of materials, energy, and water within complex industrial systems.
RISERS supports the development and coordination of research and innovation activities aligned with European sustainability goals, strengthening synergies between existing initiatives and identifying new opportunities for industrial symbiosis. The project adopts a holistic perspective, combining technological innovation with governance, policy alignment, and stakeholder engagement to accelerate the transition towards circular and low-carbon industrial systems.
Through networking, knowledge exchange, and strategic coordination, RISERS contributes to building a stronger innovation ecosystem for industrial symbiosis. It enhances the impact of research outcomes, supports the scaling of solutions, and promotes the alignment of industrial practices with the European Green Deal and long-term sustainability objectives.
