A digital solid waste reuse platform for balkan (S.W.A.N)

This initiative establishes a cross-border ecosystem for solid-waste reuse by mapping waste streams, matching supply and demand, and creating a stakeholder network supported by ministries and industry associations. It aims to generate new value chains, employment and tax revenues while reducing landfill disposal, raw material imports and CO₂ emissions. Policy recommendations support a shared regional resource-efficiency strategy (2017-2019).

SWAN – Sustainable Water Management and Industrial Symbiosis in European Regions

The SWAN project (Sustainable Water Network), funded under the Interreg programme, aims to improve water management policies and practices by promoting industrial symbiosis and resource efficiency across European regions. The project focuses on enhancing the reuse, recovery, and efficient use of water within and between industrial sectors, contributing to the transition towards a circular economy.

SWAN supports regional and local authorities in strengthening policy instruments related to water management by fostering interregional cooperation and the exchange of knowledge and best practices. Through collaboration between public bodies, industry stakeholders, and research organisations, the project identifies innovative approaches to water reuse, wastewater valorisation, and integrated resource management.

By developing action plans and facilitating policy learning processes, SWAN contributes to more sustainable and resilient water systems. The project ultimately supports environmental protection, reduces pressure on freshwater resources, and enhances the sustainability and competitiveness of regional economies in line with European environmental and circular economy objectives.
